The fossilised remains of one of the world's oldest sea creatures have been discovered, intact, in Bridgwater Bay in Somerset. The remains of the creature, which dates back more than 150 million years to the days when dinosaurs ruled the planet, were discovered by local fisherman Nick Collard.
Measuring 1.5 metres in length, the fossil has been identified by local experts as a plesiosaur from the Jurassic era - the same creature believed, in some circles, to be haunting the murky depths of Loch Ness in Scotland. Robin Prowse, of English Nature, joined experts from Taunton Museum in a delicate, rain-soaked operation to prise the fossil out of the bay's silt.
